OUR STORY
Founded in 2020, the SOL Collective was established to uplift and showcase the voices of women of color in the storytelling community and arts scene of Chicago. The name SOL holds significant meaning for us as it symbolizes our identity as women of the Sun, our connection to our ancestral spirits, and our commitment to sharing the Stories of Our Lives.
MISSION
We are a group of tellers who share stories rooted in the perspectives of Black women and women of color. We bring high-polished storytelling to our audiences to entertain, enlighten, and nourish.
VISION
We strive for a world in which Black women and women of color are valued by all for their truth telling, shared life experiences, and worldmaking. We envision a global artistic community where Black women and women of color participate as full creative members.
CELEBRATE
We actively affirm Collective members through words, hugs, and tears and by embracing a shared sense of joy.
OPEN HEARTS & GRACE
We always strive to do and give our best. This includes our willingness in being flexible to the needs of those within the Collective.
QUALITY
We strive to be creative, thoughtful, and prepared so we can present high polished shows to our audiences.
MISSION DRIVEN
We stay true to our founding purpose, by being a haven for diverse Black women and women of color to tell stories inspired by their experiences, histories, and imaginations.
